John Berry

Director of Capital

John joined Ventures in 2025

John’s belief in the power of access to finance to change lives led him to a career in microfinance. After many years working internationally, John returned to Seattle to reengage with the small business community in the greater Puget Sound as Director for Capital at Ventures.

As a technical director John has experience in designing and delivering financial and non-financial services to empower small businesses.  John believes that the best approach to helping Venture’s clients to grow and thrive is to offer a blend of services designed to address the multiple challenges of running a small business. By integrating training and incubation services with small loans, Ventures ensures that clients have both the willingness and capacity to succeed as borrowers and entrepreneurs.

John received his master’s degree in development economics from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and bachelor’s degrees from American University in international studies and French. He is the author of a book and numerous technical publications.

John’s love of the Pacific Northwest was imprinted as a teenager growing up at Fort Lewis. After years of traveling, he is glad to be home in Seattle. His happy places are cooking and walking his labradoodle on the Ship Canal Trail.
