Today marks the start of National Volunteer Appreciation Week, a time to recognize all the hard work and dedication of Ventures’ volunteers. We are so grateful for the many people from the community who spend their time working alongside low-income entrepreneurs as they build their businesses. Ventures would not be able to do all we do without our team of volunteers.
In the last year we have had over 140 volunteers donate 4,672 hours to Ventures. Volunteer duties include capacity building projects, retail store customer service, business coaching, and board and committee service. In 2015, we had a total of 25 interns from various universities in the Puget Sound region working with our staff to support our programs and organizational projects.
The largest portion of volunteers are our business coaches, providing one-on-one and group coaching to our entrepreneurs. Our coaches start out attending the Business Development Training (BDT) before jumping into other training programs and business labs. Many coaches leave the BDT inspired by our clients and excited to explore more ways to get involved.
Some comments from coaches after the BDT:
“The clients are very inspiring and it is a worthwhile service.”
“I learned as much as the students”
“ I enjoy helping out the clients! I personally learn quite a bit and I am challenged.”
“ I really enjoy the clients’ enthusiasm and drive to pursue their businesses.”
“ I like to think I am helping folks take a step closer to whatever dream they are pursuing.”
“I found the experience very rewarding and the students were very professional, respectful, and eager to learn.”
A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers and interns across the organization, we are very grateful to have you as part of the Ventures Team. If you are interested in learning more about volunteering please contact Christie Dahlin, our Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
