Partnerships and continued innovation remain at the forefront of our work.
We strive to understand what business owners and communities need most. We collaborate with mission-driven partners to provide the best hands on, accessible, and dynamic small business services possible. Our partnership with Pike Place Market has been vital to our work. With their expansion grand opening on June 29th, we are highlighting this longstanding partnership and the impact on our community.
Back in 2011, the Ventures Marketplace moved from its original location in Pioneer Square to the Mezzanine Level at Pike Place Market. This opened up doors of possibility and opportunity to tell the Ventures story.
Our presence in the market has since expanded to serve the rich community of artisans and local producers through customized workshops and courses. In 2013, we kicked off our partnership with the Pike Place Market Preservation and Development Authority (PDA), and with their support of outreach and onsite classroom space, Ventures offered its first Business Basics course. This course was custom designed for product businesses, artisans, and packaged foods and brought 29 entrepreneurs together to learn about building and growing a self-sustaining micro-enterprise.
There was a deep need for customized training in this community, ranging from costing and sourcing, to creating unique marketing strategies for both the local and tourist target markets. Since then, Ventures has run six business training courses in partnership with the PDA serving over 150 business owners. In addition, our education offerings have expanded to include digital marketing, building a collective artisan brand, wholesale strategies, and pricing.
With the MarketFront expansion opening June 29th, Ventures’ goal is simple: connect local small businesses with the 10 million tourists that visit the Market each year. We are looking forward to our continued partnership, both in providing valuable education offerings as well as telling the stories of local makers.
