Ventures is always looking for ways to increase our visibility.

When it comes to recruiting volunteers, this often comes in the form of tabling. Last month, Ventures was represented at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, ChickChat, and Seattle Womxn Marching Forward events, where we spread the word about our work and recruited volunteers.

We loved participating in the Volunteer Fair at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation because we were able to engage their employees directly. We met a number of amazing staff who have since been able to connect their passions and skills with our needs in long-term opportunities. More than 70% of our clients are women. It’s important for Ventures to represent our organization at events focused on empowering women and celebrating female entrepreneurship. Last month, we were privileged to be the featured nonprofit at ChickChat’s “The Influentials: Female Founders”, where we shared the stage with women who forged their own path to create their own businesses – just like our clients. We learned what motivated these women to go it alone through their challenges and triumphs. We left feeling inspired and connected.

You might have also seen us at Seattle Womxn Marching Forward Community Convergence, an event put on by the organizers of the Womxn’s March on Seattle. It was a night of community building and action planning. We were proud to talk to emerging community leaders about volunteer opportunities at Ventures, and participate in powerful group discussions.

Many people think tabling events means sitting at a table with brochures, but we know this is a powerful tool to connect with the community. Knowing that our clients succeed when supported by meaningful relationships, we mirror that in our volunteer program. As a people-driven organization, we use our valuable tabling time to establish long-term relationships with potential volunteers.
