It was yet another cloudy day in Seattle, but the Ventures’ office had a bright, bustling energy all day. Staff were busy preparing certificates and getting things together while clients were busy perfecting their pitches. On May 1st, we held our Business Basics Course Graduation: a celebration of low-income entrepreneurs working to change their lives through small business ownership.
While graduates were preparing their presentations, volunteers, board members, and guests gathered in another room for a Happy Hour. A common theme at the mixer was hearing stories about everyone’s connection to Ventures – from a word of mouth referral to discovering the Ventures Marketplace in Pike Place Market, everyone in the room was proud to support Ventures and excited to meet the latest graduates.
Graduates prepared their tables with business cards, decorations, samples, and products ready to sell. Each local entrepreneur shared their business pitch, dreams, and experience with Ventures. There was an assortment of products in the room – from cakes to raincoats to haircuts. But these businesses are more than the items they sell. They’re an income generator, an opportunity to learn, and a path out of poverty. Over 30 people graduated at the event. They left ready to develop their enterprises and advance to more specialized Ventures courses.
It was an inspirational evening for everyone in attendance. We are wishing our newest graduates the best of luck in their endeavors. Thank you to everyone who attended to let our clients know you believe in them!
