Our Winter Programs

If you stop by the Ventures office on any weeknight this month, you’ll see our entrepreneurs working on their business. And they are working hard.

The New Year has brought another quarter of programming at Ventures. It’s been great to see our business owners reconnect with each other, ask questions, and work with coaches and staff to set goals for 2017. In the past month, we have kicked off five programs to support our community of Ventures business owners.

With the generous support of the Northwest Area Foundation (NWAF) and Patricia Carrion of Andromeda Interpreting Services, we’ve begun our first of four Spanish Advanced Trainings in 2017 – the Latino Financial Management Training. In this course, our Financial Business Specialist Mayra Gomez, is teaching clients how to tackle personal and business finances, credit, taxes, and long-term financial planning. At Ventures, we believe that one of the roots of success and empowerment is understanding your finances. That’s why we don’t just focus on financial education (what we know), but financial capability (what we do).  Additionally, NWAF has enabled 20 new entrepreneurs to enroll in our Latino Business Development Training. Staff and volunteer business coaches will work side-by-side with entrepreneurs each week to teach business concepts, craft strong elevator pitches, and develop business plans.

This winter, we’ve launched our second Food Truck Apprenticeship. Laura Gomez, Ventures Food Business Specialist, will explain the intricacies of starting and running a mobile food business. This course serves up a full menu of topics on how to succeed in a competitive market; including costing, pricing, digital marketing, commercial kitchen basics, and how to drive the Word of Mouth Food Truck.

January is also the perfect time of year to get organized. We’re helping clients do that by streamlining their operations. On Thursday nights, you will find our fearless Bookkeeping & Business Specialist, Erin Williamson, teaching our Bookkeeping Boot Camp. This is a new five-session course designed to help clients implement and utilize basic accounting systems. Erin has also been offering tax workshops to assist entrepreneurs with city, state, and federal business taxes.

These programs wouldn’t be possible without the generous support of our partners, staff, and volunteers. Above all, we thank our clients who continue to show up night after night, week after week, to work on their business and support each other.
